Comparison of 3 Spreads
Feature spread 1: This article extends over onto another two pages. This is a consistent house style feature of Vogue magazine. Use of the colors black pink and white to suit the target audience but also to suit the genre of the article. More drop capitals to signal new story/view within the article. Rule of thirds also challenges the conventions of most magazines and instead uses halves. Uses one main image central on the page to suggest an image-led page to attract attention and suit the target audience. A graphic is again used instead of a realistic. Extracts from the article used to gain interest and attract attention. The main article is in 2 equal width columns.
Feature spread 3: On most of Vogue magazines, on their double page spreads they put the title of the double spread in a big sized font and is in bold, this is so that it stands out to the audience and will catch their eyes. They also used a font that is easy to read, and you can understand what is being said. This is a casual font to show that it is a casual double page spread. One this double page spread there is a couple of sentences underneath the title of the spread. It is all about the model and who it is. This writing is not in bold it is just in bigger font size than the article. This is because it is the most important part about the article and it allows the audience to have a rough idea of what the article is about without having to read it. The background color is very plain, but it is also a bright color. This is so that it stands out to the audience and catch their eyes to the article. This bright background color is also used so that the model can wear a plain colored dress and so that the colors will go together. It is important for the audience’s attention to be grabbed so that they take an interest in the magazine and have the possibility of them buying one. They used a large image size so that it stands out towards the audience. They also made the model central so that the audience focuses on the model first they then may take some inspiration from her and they will then want to read more about her. They also wrote on the image side of the spread which is information on the outfit the model is wearing but also credits the photographer and editor. This also shows they are trying to fill up as much space that they have available
Comparison of 3 spreads: Spread 1 is the only spread that used a graphic instead of a model. Spread 3 is the blandest in terms of coloring when compared to spreads 1 and 2. Spread 1 also is the only spread that enlarged quotes to catch the readers eyes while reading. Spread 2 has the most photos in the spread which gives it a unique aesthetic. All spreads have writing filling up as much space as possible even if there is an image in the way. The fonts used in each spread pertains to its own article which is a rare convention to see in a magazine. The background for all the magazine is white which contrast with the color scheme of each spread. The color scheme also is based on what the model is wearing this also includes the background of the image. Celebrities are used for bot spread 2 and 3 which gives the audience an extra reason to pick up and buy the magazine.
